How database searches & county fees work
National criminal searches pull from thousands of databases across the United States. When a match is found in these registers, it represents a pointer record—an indication that a criminal file may exist.
Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), background check companies cannot report database pointer matches as verified facts without confirming them at the local county courthouse. Surfacing unverified database matches violates federal compliance guidelines.
To maintain compliance and protect your candidates, CHCKED automatically verifys pointer matches directly with the county court clerk. The fees charged by these local jurisdictions are passed through to you at cost.

If a candidate has a potential match, the record is flagged internally as an unverified match. Under FCRA, we shield this unverified match from your reports.
03 · Local Courthouse Retrieval
Our retrieval network immediately contacts the local county clerk to request the physical case file. This ensures absolute accuracy and eliminates false positives.
04 · Verified Reporting & Cost Pass-Through
Once the physical file is verified, the record details are added to the report. Any local court-access fees charged by the jurisdiction are passed through to you at cost with zero markup.
